Collectors of Religion on Stamps (COROS).

COROS was founded in 1943 by a group of stamp collectors who realized that Religion on Stamps was becoming so large that it required its own study society to keep up with new issues and report details of older ones. COROS is the oldest topical stamp society in the United States.

COROS is non-denominational and contains members from all faiths.

Background of the United States Stamp Society

Formed in 1930 as a non-profit organization, the United States Stamp Society is the successor to the Philatelic Plate Number Association.  Renamed in 2000 from the Bureau Issues Association, the United States Stamp Society has long focused on the study of all U.S. and U.S.-related philatelic material.  As APS affiliate #150 with over 1900 members worldwide, we are THE society for collectors of stamp and revenue paper produced for use in the United States and U.S.-administered areas.  Once concerned mainly with the output of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the United States Stamp Society has expanded its coverage to include all U.S. issues, both classics and modern, regardless of the printer.

Our authoritative monthly journal,  The United States Specialist, is devoted to all aspects of U.S. philately and is one of the benefits of membership.  Always strong on stamp production and plate varieties, specific issues and the latest data on plate numbers for sheet, coil and booklets receive full coverage.  A unique structure of committees and study groups within the society serves as an information resource for members or they may participate directly by joining in those activities.  Among these are the Washington-Franklin Head Issue, Presidential and Liberty Study Groups.  As a member, you may place two free classified ads each year in the  Specialist and purchase publications - many considered to be  the reference work for that subject - at a reduced price.  These are some of the features which contribute to the primary objective of the United States Stamp Society, the collection and dissemination of information on U.S. philately.

A membership meeting with seminars open to the public is held annually at one of the country's leading stamp shows.  In addition, we provide awards for literature and competitive exhibits related to U.S. stamps.  The United States Stamp Society welcomes all collectors with an interest in U.S. stamps.
